| 内容記述 | This study explores the relationship between impersonal subject constructions and indirect evidentiality. The study demonstrates that evidentiality strategies based on verb complementation have become conventionalized in English, with impersonalization being widely used to indicate hearsay, quotative, and inferential evidence. Specifically, it argues that some impersonal subject constructions in English denoting hearsay information pertain to impersonalization, which contributes to the evidentiality strategy in terms of its (in)directness, generality, and reliability. The study also contends that the interpretation of the conceptualizer of copulative perception verb constructions and instances of co-occurring to-phrases develop a usage to confirm the perspectives of the speaker and hearer. | |||||
