Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) has been developing micro and nano satellites since 2006. In 2022 March, 6U CubeSat “KITSUNE” was deployed from International Space Station (ISS). KITSUNE’s main mission is the demonstration of a high-resolution camera based on COTS and high speed communication with C-band. KITSUNE was jointly developed by Kyutech, Harada Seiki (HSK) and Addnics corp.. To develop the high-resolution camera, Kyutech and HSK conducted thermal analyses and thermal vacuum tests. The target ground sample distance (GSD) was 5 – 10 m. At this level of GSD, the temperature of the lens is critical for capturing good images. Kyutech and HSK conducted several tests for the camera module and the whole satellite configuration. We calibrated the thermal model in Thermal Desktop by using obtained test results. Based on the analysis results, the lens temperature was optimized to achieve focus over a wide temperature range. This paper also describes the development progress of the high-resolution camera. Results of thermal balance test, optimization process of lens condition and thermal design of the satellite system and the camera module are presented. |
