| 内容記述 | 計算機利用の多様化に伴い, 教育用計算機システムへの要求もより高度化してきた.しかし, PCのように高機能を実現する機器の導入は, 一般に設定や維持の手順も複雑化させ, 運用管理コストを増大させる原因となる.九州工業大学情報科学センターでは, 従来のXウインドウ端末ベースの利用者環境にかわってLinux thin client(LTC)と呼ぶ端末を導入することにより, 利用者環境の高度化と運用管理コストの低減の両立をめざすシステムの構築を行い, ほぼ満足すべき結果を得ることができた.本稿では教育システム用端末としてのLTCの特徴について議論するとともに, システム構成上および運用上の課題とその対策について述べる. | |||||||||||||

| 内容記述 | A large system contructed with personal-computers (PC)often pays high cost of management although it is powerful. We introduce the Linux thin client(LTC)instead of the PCs for large scaled distributed systems. This paper examines the advantage of the application of the LTC to educational systems and describe the problem of constructing and managing the LTC based system, using our experience of the design and the construction of an educational system in Kyushu Institute of Technology. | |||||||||||||
