However, it is important to reduce the risk of fracture because of low toughness of ceramics, and therefore attention should be paid to the thermal stress when ceramic structures are dipped into molten metal. In order to calculate thermal stress accurately, heat transfer coefficient is necessary for the analysis. In this paper, therefore, the finite volume method is applied to calculate the heat transfer coefficient when ceramic structures are dipped into molten metal by varying the geometries and dipping directions.
