内容記述 | Political ecology is an interdisciplinary academic field to analyze environmental problems from political perspectives. Political ecology can contribute to the practice of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), as it provides critical and integrated insights on factors that hinder sustainable development. This article examined how meaningful application of the perspectives of political ecology to ESD can be realized. First, the author defined the contributions to ESD as contributions to the development of learners’ sustainability key competencies, and examined which competencies political ecology is particularly linked with. Out of the eight sustainability key competencies defined by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), political ecology was particularly relevant to systems thinking, normative, critical thinking, and integrated problem-solving competencies. Second, the author presented actual lecture cases to confirm how political ecology can be used to develop sustainability key competencies in the context of university general education. The author introduced a subject focusing on oil palm production and consumption to address systems thinking and integrated problem-solving competencies and a class focusing on framing of tropical swidden agriculture to address critical thinking competency. | |||||
